You probably all think I’m mad with my mental health obsession and constant need to share with you my progress and routines. But I really just want to stress how important it really is! And in my last blog, I wrote about the importance of self-love and how serious it actually is to make sure you do things for yourself all of the time. I remember when I was told to start, I had no clue where to even begin. So, I have decided to make a self-love challenge! You can begin whenever you want. The challenge consists of one kind act a day for yourself and goes on for the duration of two weeks. With a bit of luck, it’ll become habit and you won’t have to think about being kind to yourself anymore! If you do take part, try not to miss a day. Maybe screenshot the blog and set it as your screensaver to remind yourself. Or share your progress with your friends, try to get them on board with it! Mental health is a serious issue but who says we can’t have a little bit of fun with it!? It starts with you.
DAY ONE OF FOURTEEN:
Have a long shower or bath. Make time for yourself to do this. Have it planned. Give yourself a time limit. Light some candles. Play some music. No phones, books or games allowed. No distractions! Wash yourself with care. Take deep breaths. Be in touch with yourself as a living thing. Love yourself.
DAY TWO OF FOURTEEN:
Allow yourself some time to sit down and create a playlist of your favourite songs of all time. Songs that bring back memories, cause nostalgia, give you Goosebumps. Let yourself cry to them, laugh with them. Be in touch with how each song makes you feel and why. This is a really good exercise to keep in touch with your deep down you. Sometimes we push things away or try to forget them. But all memories are good ones, even the bad ones. They happened and they make us who we are. Get to know yourself a little bit more. Love yourself.
DAY THREE OF FOURTEEN:
Go for a walk. We all forget how amazing it can be to just feel free and walk somewhere. No fumes from the car, no sharing air with people on the bus, no disturbances. Just you, your feet touching the earth, your lungs feeling fresh air. Don’t be lazy, push yourself. I’d recommend a half an hour to an hour of this exercise. Don’t bring your phone. Instead, look for birds, dogs, people. Say hello. Practice breathing. Love yourself.
DAY FOUR OF FOURTEEN:
Arrange to meet an old friend. Get some coffee, lunch or just chill out for an hour. Be open with them. Tell them how you feel, what you’ve been up to, how you’ve been. Listen to them. Appreciate them and this meeting. Love them. Love yourself.
DAY FIVE OF FOURTEEN:
Watch a movie that makes you happy. When I feel down, I watch Disney films. I take the evening, have a hot shower, get in clean pyjamas, make myself some hot milk, fill my hot water bottle and cuddle up to watch my favourite movies. Love yourself.
DAY SIX OF FOURTEEN:
Buy yourself something. People are always quick to sped their money on other people but forget that they deserve something nice too. Even if it’s a chocolate bar, or a drink. Treat yourself. Love yourself.
DAY SEVEN OF FOURTEEN:
Work hard at something and reward yourself after. Do some college work, clean the house, learn the menus from work. Be a better you for an hour or so. And when you’re done, treat yourself with something nice. Go somewhere you wan to go, buy something you want. This is a good exercise if you have no patience. Doing this over time can introduce faith in the fact that with hard work comes great rewards. Love yourself.
DAY EIGHT OF FOURTEEN:
Practice your faith. It doesn’t matter what you like to do or what you believe in. Don’t pray for everything to be perfect, pray to have the strength to get to the day it will be. Take about fifteen minutes today to appreciate you exist and be in touch with a power higher than yourself. Love yourself.
DAY NINE OF FOURTEEN:
Go somewhere that you love. A view, a shop, the cinema, a museum. Go alone. Love yourself.
DAY TEN OF FOURTEEN:
Eat something you love. Cook it, order it, buy it. Savour every bite. Why do you love it so much?
DAY ELEVEN OF FOURTEEN:
This one is a hard one! Take a few minutes today to talk to yourself in the mirror. THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF, THINGS THAT YOU COULD WORK ON. This is a good thing to do if you worry about what other people think. If you do this over time, you will learn that the only person you need to worry about is yourself, and what you think because you are the only person that you have to live with is you. Love yourself.
DAY TWELVE OF FOURTEEN:
Do something for someone else. No matter how big or small.
DAY THIRTEEN OF FOURTEEN:
Write a diary entry. Write about your progress, Write about your feelings, your day, your emotions. Date it and keep it. Love yourself.
DAY FOURTEEN OF FOURTEEN:
Take the day off but keep your smile on. Love yourself.
You don’t need to not like yourself to do the love yourself challenge, It’s about keeping your self-love topped up and realising the importance of it.
